Kennewick, WA- The Portland Winterhawks (8-9-0-0, 16 pts) came into the Toyota Center on Wednesday Night and handed the Tri-City Americans (6-11-1-0, 13 pts) their third straight loss, as Tri-City lost 6-2 in front of 2,832 fans.

An early power play for Portland got them on the board as Rihards Bukarts slapped a one-time into the net for a 1-0 lead. Portland pushed the lead to 2-0 about a minute later as Dominic Turgeon scored. The Winterahwks made it 3-0 later into the first as Alex Schoenborn found twine. Tri-City had the shot advantage in the period 14-10, but Portland held the lead going into the second period.

Midway through the second, a goal from Alex Overhardt lit the lamp for a 4-0 lead. Three minutes later, Blake Heinrich put the puck in the net for a 5-0 lead. Tri-City got on the board shorthanded 14 minutes into the second, as Beau McCue skated in on a breakaway and slipped the puck between the legs of Michael Bullion, cutting the Portland advantage to 5-1 going into the third period.

The Americans fought in the third, as Morgan Geekie redirected a shot from Dylan Coghlan to cut the lead to 5-2 midway through the period. But Portland slammed the door shut 14:38 into the third, as Keegan Iverson scored on the power play to put the game away for the Winterhawks.

Tri-City has lost three straight games at home and overall.

The Americans spent 36 minutes in the penalty box and were unsuccessful with five power play chances. The Winterhawks were 2-of-7 on the power play and recorded 32 penalty minutes

Evan Sarthou made 28 saves in the loss while Michael Bullion stopped 29 shots in the win.

Tri-City will travel north to Canada for two games, starting with the Medicine Hat Tigers (5-7-2-1, 13 pts) this Friday, Nov. 13. Game time is at 6:30 p.m. at Canalta Centre.
