
Portland falls to the Fightin Phils 5-1

(Portland, Maine) - Hector Neris (3-1) fired six strong innings on four hits and one run, leading the Reading Fightin Phils (13-17) to a 5-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (19-11) on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for Reading, as the two teams play the rubber-game of the series on Wednesday night.
Anthony Ranaudo (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season for the Sea Dogs. The righty allowed four runs (three earned) over 6 IP, while fanning six and issuing one walk. Ranaudo allowed more than one run for the first time this season, as his ERA jumped to 1.64 from 1.00
Reading's bullpen duo of Mike Nesseth (2 IP, 3 H) and Mauricio Robles (IP, 2 K) closed out the win with scoreless appearances.
Neris scattered four hits, one run, no walks and strikeouts. The righty was beat by the Sea Dogs five days ago at First Energy Stadium.
Reading snapped a 1-1 tie, scoring three 2-out runs off Ranaudo in the sixth. Jim Murphy clobbered a solo-homer to put Reading ahead, his sixth of the season. After consecutive doubles by Cameron Rupp and Derrik Mitchell, Sebastian Valle reached on an E6, plating the third run.
Derrick Mitchell blasted a two-out, solo homer in the fourth inning, giving Reading a 1-0 lead. The homer allowed Ranaudo surrendered just his second this season home run, both to Reading.
Portland responded in there fourth, receiving a two-out homer by Travis Shaw, his first of the season. Shaw made his first start of the season at third base.
Miguel Celestino pitched the final three innings for Portland, allowing three hits and a run. Reading score the final run of the night on a wild pitch by Celestino in the eighth.
Shannon Wilkerson had two of Portland's hits, his sixth multi-hit game of the season.

The Sea Dogs and Reading Fightin Phils conclude their three-game series on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. Game time is 6:00 PM. Left-hander Franklin Morales makes a Major League Rehab assignment for Portland. Righty David Buchanan (1-3, 5.09) gets the starting nod for Reading.
