Erie SeaWolves News Release
The first place SeaWolves, behind a complete game by Kyle Lobstein, won their seventh straight game on Tuesday night at Canal Park, 4-3 over the Akron Aeros.
Akron gabbed the lead in the bottom of the third against Lobstein. Roberto Perez and Giovanny Urshela each singled to start the inning. With one out, Justin Toole walked to load the bases for Chun Chen. Chen lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Perez, giving the Aeros a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, Daniel Fields doubled with one out and moved to third on a two-out James McCann single against Aeros starter Danny Salazar. James Robbins singled to left-center, plating Fields, tying the game at 1-1. It was the first run allowed by Salazer in 20 innings.
Akron regained the lead in the fifth. Perez led off with a walk and Urshela singled to start the inning. Tyler Holt laid down a sacrifice bunt pushing the runners into scoring position. Toole followed with a base hit to right, plating a pair for a 3-1 lead.
Trailing by two into the sixth inning for the second straight night, the SeaWolves again mounted a comeback. Fields led off with a single and that was followed by back-to-back walks by Tyler Collins and McCann against reliever Kyle Landis. Robbins bounced into a fielder's choice and Fields was retired at the plate for the first out. Wade Gaynor singled home Collins making it a 3-2 game. With two outs, Luis Castillo came up with his third hit of the night, a single back through the box off of Bryce Stowell, plating a pair for a 4-3 lead.
The one-run edge would be all Lobstein (4-2) needed as he faced the minimum over the final four innings of the game. He finished the day tossing 114 pitches, 81 for strikeouts. The Erie lefty has now won three consecutive starts and has allowed three runs or fewer in all but one start.
The complete game was the first of the season for the 'Wolves. The last complete game tossed by an Erie pitcher was a complete game shutout by Ramon Garcia on August 9, 2012 against New Hampshire.
The SeaWolves have won seven straight for the first time since July 29-August 5, 2011.
The SeaWolves go for the series sweep on Wednesday morning in Akron at 10:35 a.m. RHP Patrick Cooper (1-2, 5.19 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Matt Packer (0-4, 4.60 ERA).
