
Portland Drops Series Opener 6-3 in Reading

Reading, Pennsylvania- The Portland Sea Dogs (28-30, 68-59) drop series opener 6-3 to the Reading Fightin Phils (27-31, 54-71) on Tuesday night.
Red Sox prospects Roman Anthony (No. 2) and Kyle Teel (No. 4) both made their Double-A debuts in Reading. Teel recorded his first Double-A hit and RBI in the top of the seventh inning to put Portland on the board while Anthony laced his first single at the Double-A level in the top of the eighth. Cody Scroggins pitched 2.1 shutout innings with two strikeouts before Christopher Troye fired a perfect 2.0 innings with four strikeouts in relief.
Reading took the early lead, plating all six of their runs on the night in the bottom of the first. Carlos De La Cruz hit a two-run homer before Casey Martin reached on a fielding error allowing Oliver Dunn to score. A three-run homer from Pedro Martinez completed the scoring and Reading led 6-0.
Teel put Portland on the board in the top of the seventh with his first hit and RBI at the Double-A level. The RBI single scored Blaze Jordan and Portland was on the board 6-1.
Anthony recorded his first hit at the Double-A level in the top of the eighth with one out on the board. A single from Nick Yorke along with walk from Chase Meidroth would load the bases. Nathan Hickey cut the Reading lead in half after grounding into a force out that allowed Anthony and Yorke to score but Reading led 6-3.
Reading starter RHP Zach Haake (2-4 4.87 ERA) earned the win after pitching 6.0 scoreless innings allowing one hit while walking three and striking out four. Orion Kerkering (5) was awarded the save after a perfect ninth with two strikeouts. The loss was issued to Portland starter RHP CJ Liu (5-8, 5.45 ERA) after pitching 3.2 innings allowing six runs on six hits while walking three and striking four.
The Sea Dogs return to FirstEnergy Stadium tomorrow, September 6th for game two of a six-game series against the Reading Fightin' Phils. First pitch for game two is slated for 6:45pm. Portland will start RHP Angel Bastardo (0-1, 5.73 ERA) while Reading will give the ball to RHP Mick Abel (4-5, 4.52 ERA).
