Vancouver Giants News Release

For the second straight game the Vancouver Giants spotted their opponents a 4 goal lead, tried to rally, but the comeback would fall short as Portland defeated Vancouver 5-3.

The Winterhawks opened the scoring just 55 seconds into the game. In fact they would score on their first two shots and that would spell the end of Mark Segal's night just 5:36 in. Brendan Jensen would replace him, but he would be beaten on the first shot he faced to go down 3-0 through 20 minutes.

Portland added to their lead early in the 2nd period to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Vancouver would not quit though. Nathan Burns potted his 14th goal of the season to make it 4-1. James Henry got his team within two, scoring his 14th of the year and then Greg Lamoureux sniped home his 5th of the season to get the Giants within one goal after two periods of play.

In the third, the Giants had a number of opportunities to get the equalizer, including a 5-on-3 man advantage, but were unable to capitalize. Portland scored an insurance marker with just under six minutes left to seal the deal. 5-3 was the final score. Vancouver has now lost seven straight games. The Giants went 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Winterhawks were 0-for-5 as well. Brendan Jensen took the loss in net making 26 saves on the night.

Vancouver is back in action Friday night when they play host to the Kelowna Rockets. It is Honda Fan Appreciation Night at the Pacific Coliseum. $30,000 in prizes will be given out, including a brand new 2011 Honda Odyssey. For ticket information check out vancouvergiants.com.
