
Portland comes from behind to top Trenton

(Portland, ME)- Portland First baseman Lars Anderson hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to help Portland to come from behind and defeat Trenton 4-3 on Saturday night from Hadlock Field. Trenton's four-game winning streak came to an end.
Down 3-1 in the eighth inning, Portland (27-28) scored three runs to take the lead. Portland Catcher Juan Apodaca singled to lead off the frame against Thunder Reliever Kanekoa Texeira (5-3). He went to second base on a walk by Third Baseman Jorge Jimenez. After Aaron Bates flied out for the first out of the inning, Anderson connected on the go-ahead three-run home run to put Portland on top for the first time in the game. In the ninth inning, Portland Reliever T.J. Large protected the lead by pitching a scoreless frame for his fifth save of the season. With the loss, Trenton dropped to 26-2 when leading after the seventh inning of games. Texeira allowed three runs in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss. It was his first loss since April 26th. Portland Reliever Andrew Dobies (1-0) picked up the win in relief with one shutout inning in his season-debut.
Trenton (30-24) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Portland Starting Pitcher Felix Doubront. Shortstop Reegie Corona walked to lead off the game. With two outs in the inning, and Corona at third base, Designated Hitter Noah Hall delivered an RBI single to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Two batters later in the inning, Catcher Kyle Anson singled to score Hall and increase the lead to 2-0. Anson went 2 x 4 with an RBI. He was the only Thunder player with a multi-hit game. Outfielder James Cooper extended the lead to 3-0 in the second inning on a solo home run. The home run was his first career home run for the Thunder.
Trenton Starting Pitcher Ivan Nova scattered five hits and one run over five innings for a no-decision. He walked three and struck out one. Doubront also received a no-decision. He allowed seven hits and three runs over five innings.
Trenton and Portland play the rubber game of their series on Sunday afternoon from Hadlock Field in Portland, ME. RHP Ryan Pope (2-4, 5.16) will start for Trenton against Portland RHP Junichi Tazawa (6-3, 2.79). Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
