Porter Backstops Hitmen to 2-0 Victory

Medicine Hat, AB - Cody Porter made 32 saves for his second shutout of the season and fourth of his career, backstopping the Calgary Hitmen to a 2-0 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night at the Canalta Centre.

The game was scoreless until late in the third period when Tyler Mrkonjic broke the stalemate for Calgary, converting a powerplay chance with 4:43 remaining. Andrew Fyten then added an empty net marker for his first career Western Hockey League goal.

The Hitmen finished their five game road trip with a record of 4-1 and will now head home to close out their pre-holiday break schedule tomorrow, on Saturday, Dec. 19 when they host the Tigers in the rematch. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Saturday's contest will see the Hitmen will celebrate its charitable arm, the Calgary Hitmen Foundation showcasing how the foundation contributes to the development of grassroots and amateur sports, promotes health and wellness and supports education. Paying it forward will be highlighted by Breakfast Television and Sportsnet 960-The Fan's Fame For Food with fans asked to bring a non-perishable item to the game for the Calgary Food Bank.

The Calgary Food Bank can turn just $1 into $5 worth of food. Donation boxes will be present on the concourse during Saturday's game in an effort to raise additional funds for deserving Calgary families.
