Fresno Falcons News Release

FRESNO, Calif. – Taylor Cup Playoff MVP Kris Porter and goaltender Terry Friesen were named the West Coast Hockey League's Player and Goaltender of the Week, respectively. Their stellar play helped the Falcons to three straight victories this past weekend against the Idaho Steelheads and Anchorage Aces.

Porter merited Player of the Week honors for turning in one of the best individual game performances in Falcons history. He poured in four goals and added one assist against the Aces on Sunday. He is the first Falcon to score four goals in a game since the 1997-98 season and only the fourth Fresno player to accomplish such a feat. His five points in a single game also tied a franchise mark, achieved 10 other times in team history.

Friesen tormented last year's Taylor Cup Finals opponent by stopping 51 of 54 shots in two games against the Steelheads. He also thwarted three out of four Idaho shooters during the shootout in Fresno's 2-1 win on Friday night. The Goaltender of the Week posted a 2-0-0 record with a 1.50 goals against average and 94.4% save percentage for the week.

Also receiving an Honorable Mention for Player of the Week was winger Jason Weaver. The Falcons captain scored the team's first goal of the season, which sent Friday's game to a shootout. He ended the three-game stretch with two goals and three assists and is tied with Porter as the third leading scorer in the league.

The Falcons next take the ice on Tuesday, Oct. 29, against the San Diego Gulls at Selland Arena when they will wear special edition Halloween jerseys. The team will auction off the jerseys following their game against the Steelheads on Saturday, Nov. 2, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Crime Stoppers. Tickets for all Falcons games are still available at the Selland Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations.
