Alaska Aces News Release
Anchorage, Alaska â The Anchorage Aces will make their long-awaited home debut this weekend against arch rival Idaho with help from an unexpected source, the renowned "Hanson Brothers" from the hockey movie "Slap Shot."
All three Hanson Brothers, Steve and Jeff Carlson and Dave Hanson, will arrive in Anchorage in time for an appearance at the Lake Otis and Abbott Loop Subway location Friday from Noon-2:00 p.m. The Hanson Brothers will regroup and be on hand for Anchorage's home opener at Sullivan Arena against the Steelheads (2-1-1 heading into tonight's game with San Diego) at 7:00 p.m. After the teams square off again Saturday at 7:00 p.m., the Hanson Brothers begin their Sunday early with a stop at the Dimond Center Mall ice arena from 1:00-3:00 p.m. All three will be available for autographs and photos before heading to Sullivan Arena for the final game of the Idaho series at 5:00 p.m., which will include a postgame skate with the players immediately following the contest. All Sunday home games will include the postgame "skate with the Aces" promotion this year.
The Aces (1-3) split a pair of games in California over the weekend, winning 3-2 at Bakersfield Saturday behind 36 saves from Christian Soucy and losing 6-3 in Fresno Sunday as Kris Porter scored four goals for the Falcons. Yvan Corbin handed out a pair of assists in Saturday's victory, including the game-winning goal, scored by Don Martin at the 17:51 mark of the second period. Corbin scored twice and added an assist and Martin scored again in Sunday's defeat.
Friday and Saturday broadcast times have been set at 6:45 p.m. ADT, with coverage beginning at 4:45 p.m. for Sunday's finale. Jack Michaels handles the play-by-play duties for all games on KFQD 750 AM, presented by GCI.
