Beacons Blank Jackals 5-0

October 22, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release

Port Huron continued to play more like a seasoned team than an expansion club, downing the Elmira Jackals 5-0 before 3,861 fans at the Coach USA Center Saturday night.

The two teams played to a scoreless first period before the Beacons exploded for four second period markers to send the Jackals back on their heels. Casey Harris, Peter Bournazakis, and Jason Firth handled the scoring for the Beacons, with Bournazakis scoring twice, and Firth tallying two goals and two assists in the contest, including a third period short handed breakaway goal that put the game out of reach for Port Huron. Chris MacKenzie also registered two assists on the night to pace the Port Huron offense.

Bujar Amidovski stopped all 24 Jackal shots in the contest to pick up his second win of the season and first shut out. Jeremy Symington played the first 40 minutes for the Jackals before giving way to Marco Emond in the third period.

Also of note, Elmria's power play woes continued as the club went 0 for 6 with the man advantage in the game, while the Beacons were 1 for 6.

The Jackals return to action Thursday night against the Adirondack IceHawks in a game originally scheduled for this Saturday night. Game time is 7 pm, and tickets are still available for the contest through all Ticket Master locations, online at www.TicketMaster.com, or charge by phone at (607) 722-3711. The Jackals will then play their first game on the road this year in Glens Falls on Friday, a 7:30 pm start. All games are carried live on your home for Jackals Hockey, WiNGZ 104.9!
