Popugaev Set to Join Warriors

Moose Jaw Warriors General Manager Alan Millar announced today the hockey club has received the approved IIHF Transfer of Russian forward Nikita A. Popugaev, and he is expected to join the Warriors this weekend.

"We're very pleased that Nikita and his family have chosen the WHL and the Moose Jaw Warriors as the next step in his promising hockey career," commented Warriors General Manager Alan Millar. "Nikita brings good size and skill to our team. He's an exciting prospect with considerable potential and upside."

Popugaev, 6'4 195lbs, is from Moscow, Russia and was selected by the Warriors with the 22nd overall pick in the 2015 CHL Import Draft. Playing last season with CSKA Moscow U17, Popugaev had 19 goals, 22 assists, and 41 points in 24 games. Popugaev took part in the 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with Team Russia, he scored three goals in six games and captured a gold medal.

Popugaev will arrive in Moose Jaw this Friday, he's expected to skate with the Warriors for the first time Saturday morning and is possible to make his Warriors debut that night against Medicine Hat at Mosaic Place.
