
Ponies' Wild Rally Falls Short of Portland on Wednesday

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (19-21, 54-55) put together a wild comeback in the eighth inning, but fell to the Portland Sea Dogs, 10-7 at Mirabito Stadium on Wednesday night. The Sea Dogs have taken each of the first two games in the series.
Binghamton trailed 10-1 going into the bottom of the eighth but put up a six-spot to cut the deficit to three runs. The Ponies brought 11 batters to the plate and totaled six runs on five hits, with three walks. JT Schwartz had an RBI walk, Jeremiah Jackson hit a two-run single, Rowdey Jordan hit an RBI double, Hayden Senger had an RBI groundout, and Mateo Gil hit an RBI double that made it 10-7.
In the ninth, the Ponies brought the potential tying run to the plate, after a leadoff single from Drew Gilbert and two-out single from Jordan. Luis Guerrero (16) held on for the save, as he got Senger to lineout to end the game.
The Ponies got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Gilbert smoked a double down the left field line and Schwartz followed with an RBI single to right field that scored Gilbert.
In the third inning, Portland (21-20, 61-49) got to Tyler Stuart (2-2). The inning was highlighted by a bases-clearing three-run double from Chase Meidroth that made it 3-1.
Up 3-1 in the fourth, Elih Marrero crushed a solo shot to left field that made Portland's lead 4-1. It was his first home run of the season.
In the fifth inning, Portland extended its lead. The inning was highlighted by a three-run homer from Phillip Sikes that made it 7-1.
Up six runs in the eighth inning, Portland scored three runs on four hits. Alex Binelas singled, Marrero singled, Brainer Bonaci later singled and Nick Yorke followed with a bases-clearing three-run double that made it 10-1.
The Ponies were down nine runs in the eighth inning and ended up falling by three runs.
The Rumble Ponies continue their series with the Sea Dogs at Mirabito Stadium on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. and pregame coverage will begin at 6:20 p.m. on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
