Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies were edged by the Harrisburg Senators 4-3 Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium.
The Ponies' first two batters reached in the ninth and had first and third with one out off Senators closer Aaron Barrett but failed to tie the game. With runners on the corners, Barrett struck out both Sam Haggerty and Patrick Mazeika swinging to end the game and to secure his league-leading 26th save.
The Senators scored first with two runs in the fourth on a Nick Banks RBI single and a Rhett Wiseman RBI double. They made it 3-0 on a Luis Garcia solo homer the next inning.
The score stayed that way until the seventh when the Rumble Ponies got on the scoreboard. Quinn Brodey started the rally for the Ponies with a single to right-center. Mike Paez followed with a single of his own, and Jason Krizan drove home the first Binghamton run with a single up the middle. Haggerty then tied the game with a two-run single.
The Senators took the lead back on Banks' second RBI hit of the game with a single off Yeizo Campos to score Tres Barrera.
Jhonatan German (1-0) picked up the win despite giving up three runs on four hits over one inning. Campos (0-1) suffered the loss as he gave up one run on two hits in two innings of relief. Mickey Jannis received a no-decision as he allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out four over seven innings.
The Rumble Ponies begin a three-game series with the Hartford Yard Goats at Dunkin' Donuts Park Friday night at 7:05 PM on NewsRadio 1290 AM WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 6:50 PM.
POSTGAME NOTES: Haggerty went 2-5 with two RBI... Brodey finished 2-4 with a run scored... Paez went 2-3 and finished the series 5-8 with two RBI and one home run.
