Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY- The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (2-2), led by four homers including Francisco Alvarez third homer in as many games, routed the Bowie Baysox 9-4 in the 2022 home opener Tuesday night.

Alvarez three-run homer as part of a five-run seventh made it 7-2 Binghamton. Ronny Mauricio also had three RBI, including a two-run double in the first to put Binghamton up 2-1. He tacked on a solo homer in the sixth, his first of the year. Brett Baty also finished 3-5 with two doubles and two runs scored.

The Ponies were on a power surge all night as Antoine Duplantis hit a solo homer in the second, his first of the year. The big inning though was the seventh. With the Ponies ahead 4-2, Duplantis and Jake Mangum drew walks to begin the frame, setting up Alvarez. Alvarez also hit a long single off the wall in the first and finished the night 2-4 with three RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. The 20-year-old is now hitting .538 (7-13) in his first three games at Double-A with three homers and seven RBI.

The seventh continued with a Baty double and two batters after that Ponies second basemen Luke Ritter hit a two-run shot to left-centerfield to make it 9-2 Ponies, his first of the season.

Alec Kisena (1-0) was the first Ponies starter to earn a win this year allowing only one run over five innings with no walks and three strikeouts. Bowie (1-3) starter Zach Peek took the loss (0-1) allowing three runs over five.

The Ponies continue their six-game homestand with the Baysox on Wednesday night at Mirabito Stadium. First pitch is at 6:35 PM with pregame coverage getting underway at 6:20.

Postgame Notes: Duplantis finished 1-2 with two runs scored and two walks...Bowie LF Hudson Haskin finished 2-4 and 1B Andrew Daschbach hit his first home run of the year in the seventh.
