
Fisher Cats Blast Three Homers to Win Home Opener against Yard Goats

Manchester, NH - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats cranked three home runs and defeated the Yard Goats by the score of 11-4 in their home opener on Tuesday night at Delta Dental Stadium. Orelvis Martinez hit a two-run homer in the first inning, Steward Berroa added a three-run homer in the fourth inning, and Sebastian Espino connected on a three-run homer in the fifth inning as the Fisher Cats won their third consecutive game. The Yard Goats left 13 men on base and were denied a third straight win. Third baseman Aaron Shunk hit his second home run for the Yard Goats, a two-run shot in the eighth inning.
The Fisher Cats had a 3-0 lead three batters into the game in the home side of the first inning. Tanner Morris was hit by a pitch and stole second base. Rafael Lantigua followed with an RBI single to give the Fisher Cats a 1-0 lead. Orelvis Martinez then smashed a two-run homer over the fence in right center field to make it 3-0.
Yard Goats starter Noah Davis retired 10 straight batters until he hit Zac Cook with one out in the fourth inning. The Fisher Cats took advantage with back-to-back singles, including a run-scoring hit by Phil Clarke, scoring Cook to make it 4-0. Later in the inning, Steward Berroa smashed a three-run homer and it was 7-0.
The Yard Goats scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning off reliever Marcus Reyes. Starter Max Castillo held Hartford hitless over the first four innings but ran up his pitch count with four walks. With two outs, Isaac Collins singled, Ezequil doubled and Michael Toglia ripped a two-out opposite field single to make it 7-2. However, the Fisher Cats sealed the deal with another three-run homer, as Sebastian Espino went deep in the fifth inning.
The Yard Goats continue their first road trip of the season on Wednesday in New Hampshire at 6:35 PM. RHP Karl Kauffmann will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Elvis Luciano will start for New Hampshire. The game will be broadcast on Newsradio 1410 WPOP. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday, April 19 (7:05 PM) against the Yankees affiliate, the Somerset Patriots.
