Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (0-7) fell to the Altoona Curve 7-2 on Wednesday night at Rumbletown Stadium. Altoona (4-3) set the tone early with a three-run first against Colin Holderman (0-1), highlighted by Cal Mitchell's two-run homer.

Oneil Cruz also hit a two-run homer for the Curve in the fifth off Joe Zanghi, his second two-run homer in as many games. Altoona has four home runs over the first two games of the series.

Binghamton's Wagner Lagrange cut the Altoona lead to 3-1 in the fourth with a solo homer to right field, his first of the year. It's the second home run of the season by the Ponies.

The visitors would extend the lead to 7-1 after six but the Ponies had scoring chances in the later innings. Binghamton had the bases loaded with two out in the seventh, but Carlos Cortes flew out to deep left to end the frame. In the eighth, the Ponies had second and third with one out against John O'Reilly, but Mark Vientos and Will Toffey struck out swinging to strand the runners. In the ninth, Cortes drove in the second Ponies run with an RBI double scoring Manny Rodriguez from first.

Holderman takes the loss allowing three runs over two innings. Cam Alldred (1-0) gets the win in relief as he pitched two and two thirds perfect innings.

The two teams continue their six-game series on Thursday night. First pitch is at 6:35 PM and pre-game coverage gets underway at 6:20 PM on MiLB.TV and MiLB.com.
