Pittsburgh Penguins Assign Defenseman Andrew Ference to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Pittsburgh Penguins today assigned defenseman Andrew Ference to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for a conditioning assignment. The announcement was made by Penguins' General Manager Craig Patrick.

Ference, 23, will be in the lineup tomorrow night when as the Penguins (7-10-1-1; 16 points, Fourth-Place, South Division) host the Norfolk Admirals (13-5-1-2; 29 points, First-Place, South Division) at 7:05 PM.

The 5'10", 197-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta has not played a game this season after recovering from hernia surgery.

Ference has played in 141 career games with Pittsburgh, recording 32 points (10+22) and 121 penalty minutes. He played in career-high 75 games last season with the Penguins, recording 11 points (4+7) and 73 penalty minutes.

He split the 2000-2001 season between Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Ference recorded 15 points (4+11) in 36 games with the Penguins and played in 43 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, totaling 24 points (6+18) and 95 penalty minutes.

In 87 career games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, he has recorded 52 points (14+38) and 153 penalty minutes. Ference was drafted by Pittsburgh in the eighth round (208th overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
