ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Tourists used a big third inning and quality pitching to defeat the Greensboro Grasshoppers 3-2 on Friday night at McCormick Field. Asheville scored all of their runs in the third inning and Garrett Schilling tossed six quality innings to earn his second win of the season.

Greensboro had a chance to score the game's first runs in the top of the third. The Grasshoppers put four runners aboard in the frame; however. Schilling picked off a pair of Grasshoppers on the bases. The visitors were held scoreless in the frame.

Asheville took full advantage of their third inning. Ryan Vilade led off with a single and Taylor Snyder followed that with a walk. Following a sacrifice bunt, Shael Mendoza drove both runners in with a single to right. Later in the inning, Casey Golden plated Mendoza with an infield single to third.

The Tourists used pitching to hold the lead the rest of the way. Schilling allowed an unearned run in the fourth and Greensboro netted one more in the eighth. Robert Tyler pitched around a leadoff single in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

Ben Bowden and Tommy Doyle added to the bullpen attack for the Tourists and both earned holds. Schilling became just the second Tourists pitcher this year to pitch six innings in a start and in doing so lowered his ERA on the season to 2.25.
