Mitchell's Four-Hit Night, Strong Relief Headline 6-0 Win

LEXINGTON, KY - Calvin Mitchell put together his second four-hit game of the season while West Virginia used four pitchers to blank the Lexington Legends, 6-0, on Friday evening at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

It did not take long for Mitchell to continue his torrid stretch at the plate, as the Pirates' 16th-best prospect per MLB.com singled in the top of the first inning to increase his hitting streak to 13 games. He has also reached base safely in 15 consecutive games and in 21 of his 22 games played this year. Mitchell finished 4-for-5 on the evening with two singles and two doubles along with an RBI, upping his team-leading total to 18.

West Virginia (12-10) quickly jumped on Lexington starter, Daniel Tillo (0-1), in the first inning, as Lolo Sanchez scored the first run of the game on a ground ball from Deon Stafford.

The Power plated two more runs in the third, as Sanchez came across to score on an errant throw after advancing to third on a single from Mitchell. Mitchell would later come home thanks to a stroked single to center by Mason Martin, giving him 16 RBI on the year.

The offense continued to pile it on in the middle innings with new Power reliever Beau Sulser (1-0) on the mound. Sulser lasted three scoreless innings and struck out six Legends (11-9) batters, while West Virginia added single tallies in the fourth and fifth courtesy of a blistered RBI double by Mitchell and a bases-loaded walk to Chris Sharpe, respectively.

Ben Bengtson capped the scoring in the seventh as he launched his first home run of the year, a 356-foot shot to right field.

After Braeden Ogle tossed the first two frames and Sulser spun his three sterling innings, Drew Fischer made his Power debut in the sixth, working three hitless frames and striking out three. Blake Weiman closed out the game with a scoreless ninth to give West Virginia its second shutout win of the season.

West Virginia continues their three game road-trip against the Lexington Legends at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, with first pitch on Saturday set for 6:35 p.m. LHP Ike Schlabach (0-0, 4.02 ERA) will get the start for the Power, while Lexington sends righty Janser Lara (0-0, 1.13 ERA) to the slab.
