Six in a Row for GreenJackets

North Augusta, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, took game one of their series against the Columbia Fireflies, 6-0 on Friday night.

The game started off as a pitcher duel between Joe Cavallaro of Columbia and Joey Marciano of Augusta. Both were dominating until the GreenJackets got a rally going in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Orlando Garcia doubled off the left field wall which scored Ryan Kirby and gave the GreenJackets a 1-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Jeffry Parra would hit his first home of the season, giving the GreenJackets a 2-0 lead.

Then in the bottom of the eighth inning, the GreenJackets batted around for the first time this season. They would extend their lead by four and take away all hope of a Fireflies comeback in the top of the ninth.

The shutout was led by Joey Marciano, who went six innings pitched, giving up five hits and no runs. He was followed by Peter Lannoo who threw two hitless innings. Then the GreenJackets turned to John Russell who didn't allow a hit in his one inning pitched.

This win makes it six in a row for the GreenJackets who are in first place in the Southern Division of the Southern Atlantic League.

The GreenJackets will be back in action tomorrow night at 6:05 pm for the second game of the series against Columbia.

On Saturday the 28th, we will have our Faith and Family night, followed by a fireworks show at the end of the game. Then on Sunday the 29th , we will have our Giants Sunday, were we pay homage to our MLB Parent club, the San Francisco Giants!
