Florence Y'alls News Release
Florence, KY - The Florence Freedom (28-30), presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, got yet another outstanding performance from Jeremy Gooding (5-2) on their way to a 2-1 victory over the Southern Illinois Miners (37-21) in front of 3,645 fans at UC Health Stadium on Friday.
Florence scored two runs in the first frame and used fantastic pitching performances to outlast the Miners.
Gooding pitched seven innings allowing only an unearned run and struck out 10 Miners batters. The Michigan native has tossed seven consecutive starts of two runs or less. The victory was Gooding's third consecutive win.
Trailing 1-0 heading to the bottom of the first, Florence took the lead for good. Justin Harris got things going with a single and moved to second on a Zac Mitchell ground out. Collins Cuthrell drove Harris in, doubling into the right-center gap to tie the game at one. Cuthrell came home one out later, when Sam Eberle tripled.
The Florence bullpen came in for the final two innings to shut the door. Ethan Gibbons delivered a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one and Ed Kohout closed things out in the ninth, fanning one to earn his 12th save of the season.
The Freedom return to action Saturday against the Miners on Halo Night presented by Pearle Vision of Florence. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
