Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Tourists accomplished something Tuesday night that was only done once last year; toss a shutout at home. The one and only Tourists shutout victory at McCormick Field last season came on June 12. Tuesday the Tourists recorded a 1-0 win over the Rome Braves.

It took a team effort. Asheville's starting pitcher, Breiling Eusebuo, lasted on two-thirds of an inning. The left-hander called for the trainer after retiring the first two batters of the game. Lucas Gilbreath entered and finished off the frame.

The lone run of the contest came in the bottom of the second. Casey Golden singled and took second on an errant pick off attempt. After Golden raced to third on a wild pitch, Ramon Marcelino drove him in with an RBI groundout.

Gilbreath pitched Asheville through the fifth inning before turning the ball over to Erick Julio who followed with two shutout innings. Ben Bowden struck out the side in the eighth and Tommy Doyle pitched around a one-out double in the ninth to complete the shutout.

Rome finished with only three hits while the Tourists managed six. Gilbreath earned the win by tossing 4.1 innings while Doyle received his first save of the season. The Tourists pitching staff totaled 13 strikeouts in the win.

With the series knotted up at one game apiece, Asheville and Rome square off in a rubber match that wraps up the homestand on Wednesday night at 7:05pm.
