Hickory Crawdads News Release

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads offense exploded on Tuesday night for 18 runs as they beat the Lexington Legends for their second straight win. The 'Dads put up 10 extra base hits in the 18-6 victory against the first-place Legends.

The 'Dads 18 runs scored is the highest run total for the team since they scored 19 in Lexington in 2016. Tonight's run total is also the most the 'Dads have scored at the Frans since 2010, in a game also against Lexington.

The Crawdads got the scoring off early, putting up 4 in the bottom of the 1st. Left fielder Eric Jenkins led off the inning with a homer to right field. First baseman Yohel Pozo followed up with a single and was driven in on a double by designated hitter Melvin Novoa. Center fielder Pedro Gonzalez hit a single to right that advanced Novoa to third. Gonzalez moved up to second on a throwing error. Third baseman Tyler Ratliff drove both runners in for his first RBIs of the season.

The Legends countered in the top of the second with a solo homerun by right fielder Seuly Matias to dead center.

The 'Dads bats went quiet in the bottom of the second but exploded for 9 runs in the third. Pozo led off the inning with a single. Novoa followed up with his second double of the night and sent Pozo to third. Gonzalez followed up with a deep triple to center that drove Pozo and Novoa in. Huff hammered a double that scored Gonzalez. Ratliff and second baseman Kole Enright were hit in consecutive at bats to load the bases. In the next at bat shortstop Yonny Hernandez drew a walk that scored a run and marked the seventh consecutive 'Dads to reach base. The walk drove Legends starter Nolan Watson out of the game. Watson finished with just two complete innings, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on 9 hits, 2 walks, and 2 hit batters. Crawdads leadoff hitter Jenkins grounded into a fielder's choice for the inning's first out but kept the bases loaded. Aparicio smashed a triple to right that scored all three runners. Novoa sent a ball over the right field fence for his third hit of the night that concluded the scoring for the inning.

The Legends put up another run in the 5th on a solo shot by third baseman Dennicher Carrasco. A series of hits and a run scored in the sixth drove Tyree Thompson out of the game. Thompson left two runners on that scored on a homerun allowed by reliever Joe Kuzia that made the score 13-6

The Crawdads loaded the bases once again in the bottom of the sixth when Enright got hit by another pitch. Hernandez walked for the second time with the bases loaded to bring in another 'Dads run. Jenkins hit the 'Dads third triple of the night to drive in three more runs and put the team ahead 17-6.

Pozo padded the 'Dads lead a little more with a homerun to lead off the bottom of the 7th, his first of the year.

Tomorrow morning the 'Dads will go for the series sweep in a 10:30am game. The game will be the first education and senior day of the season. The Crawdads next homestand will kick off Monday, April 23rd, with Make a Difference Monday against the Greensboro Grasshoppers at 6pm.
