Pit Spitters Stop Slide Behind Dominant Hoffman
June 7, 2019 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - The woes of the road did not follow the Pit Spitters back to Traverse City as they were able to stop their four game losing slide and record a 7-1 victory Friday night versus the Kenosha Kingfish. The victory came in front of a crowd of over 1,500.
Pit Spitters starting pitcher Andrew Hoffman, a sophomore from Oakland University, was the story again, as he shut down the Kingfish to a tune of one run on three hits over six to earn his second victory of the season. He stayed ahead of the Kingfish lineup all night, facing the minimum in five of his six innings, striking out two, without a walk.
In support of their starter, Pit Spitter bats came to life in the second, plating four runners behind consecutive RBIs by shortstop Christian Faust (Grand Valley State,) left fielder Hudson Byorick (Wofford,) and second basemen Mario Camilletti (Oakland.) They tacked on three more runs in the fourth as centerfielder Jake Wilson, a junior from Bowling Green, singled home a pair of Pit Spitters runners to round out the scoring.
Will Buraconak (Indiana State,) Andrew Nelson (Olivet Nazarene,) and Conrad Voss (UT Dallas) each posted scoreless relief innings in aid of the starter Hoffman. The win takes the Pit Spitters to 5-6 on the season and 4-1 in front of the home crowd at Pit Spitters Park
The Pit Spitters return to action Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. rematch with the Kenosha Kingfish. Saturday will be "Sizzlin' Saturday," themed as Super Hero Night. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m.
