Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Kokomo, IN - The Pit Spitters dropped the final regular season game against Kokomo 14-5 on Friday.
The Jackrabbits bats were hot all night, producing 18 hits. Small ball was key, as only two of those hits went for extra bases.
Trey Yunger started the day on the right foot, doubling to lead off the game. He was left stranded at third, one of seven runners left in scoring position on the day.
Kokomo scored two in the second, starting a run of 13 straight runs scored. They added seven runs in the third, three in the fourth and one more in the sixth. They sent at least six batters to the plate every inning until they went down in order in the seventh. They loaded the bases in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings. The score could have been even more lopsided as they stranded multiple runners on base in the first six innings.
The Pit Spitters finally broke through in the seventh, scoring four runs. Mario Camilletti doubled home a pair, followed by a sac fly from Tito Flores and an RBI groundout from Chris Monroe.
After an extra run in the eighth, the Pit Spitters scored on a double from Flores to make the final score 14-5.
Camilletti walked once to give him 53 on the season, most in the Northwoods League. He added two hits to boost his OBP to .502, also first in the league.
Monroe's RBI gives him 46 on the season, good for third place in the league, but first in the Great Lakes East.
Flores had an identical night to last night, going 1-4 with a double and sacrifice fly in both games.
