
Woodchucks Sweep Bombers in Doubleheader

WAUSAU, W.I. - The Bombers lost both games of their doubleheader Thursday, snapping their five game winning streak on the road.
Game one:
What looked like easy sailing for the Bombers in game one turned in to deflation real fast.
The Woodchucks scored seven unearned runs against the Bombers as Battle Creek fell in game one 9-8. The Bombers led 8-4 going into the sixth inning when Wisconsin broke out for five runs against the Battel Creek bullpen. Micah Gibson entered in the sixth and the Woodchucks began their merry-go-round which saw them plate five runs in the inning. They scored four off Gibson who walked three giving up just one hit. Nolan Lamere was then brought in for the third consecutive game but could not hold the fort as he gave up the eventual winning hit to Chase Bessard, a two-run double.
Bessard went 3-4 with three RBI to lead the Wisconsin offense. Clayton Mehlbauer went has three RBI as well hitting two home runs.
Bessard's first home run came in the second after Battle Creek scored first on a Jimmy Wressel RBI single. The Bombers would break the game open in innings three and four. Battle Creek scored four in the third and three in the fourth taking an 8-1 lead before the Woodchucks scored seven unanswered. The Bombers had eight hits led by Cameron Dalrymple who went 2-4. Roman Kuntz had two RBI.
Before the bullpen meltdown by Battle Creek, Lucas Bixby tossed five innings giving up four runs and struck out seven. HE was opposed by Shane Telfer who exited with an apparent arm injury after 2.1.
Game two:
After a close contest in game one, the Woodchucks decided to pounce on the Bombers early in their 11-2 win.
Wisconsin forced Bombers starter Gunner Morris out early. Morris threw over 35 pitches in the second, an inning in which the Woodchucks scored four runs to take an early 4-0 lead. Morris walked two to start the inning and then back-to-back doubles by Anthony Catalano and Harrison Long did the Bombers in.
Battle Creek got life in the fifth when they scored two runs on double by Roman Kuntz and a sacrifice fly by Matt Catalfo making it 4-2. But the Woodchucks took control in the sixth scoring five runs on four hits including a home run by Aaron Simmons. The Woodchucks had two home runs in the game. The other one was hit by Payton Nelson who made his season debut.
Dominic Murgo got the win for Wisconsin throwing 4.2 innings striking out three. After Morris, Zach Dehn threw three scoreless striking out four to keep Battle Creek in the game
The two teams will meet again tomorrow at 7:35 p.m.
