GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - It didn't take long for Brandon Jennings to display his ball-handling skills in his NBA D-League debut.
The Detroit Pistons guard, who is on a rehab assignment with the Grand Rapids Drive, threw a lob pass to teammate Devin Ebanks for thunderous alley-oop dunk in the first minute of the game as Grand Rapids beat the Iowa Energy 130-104 on Saturday night in front of 6,240 fans at the DeltaPlex Arena.
Grand Rapids, which set a season-best in scoring, improves to 6-8. Iowa, the affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, falls to 7-6.
Reggie Bullock scored a game-high 29 points for the Drive, including six 3-pointers, which ties the franchise high. Darrun Hilliard added 23 points, followed by Dahntay Jones (12), Xavier Ford (12) and Branden Dawson (10).
Terry Whisnant drained seven 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead four Iowa players who had 20 or more points. Lazeric Jones and Alex Stepheson each had double-doubles. Jones had 20 points and 10 assists. Stepheson had 20 points and 13 rebounds and Joel Wright scored 21 points.
Jennings, who finished with 11 points and 12 assists, injured his left Achillies tendon on Jan. 24. The 6-foot-1 guard was 4-for-9 from the field in 27 minutes of play. He drained two 3-pointers.
Jennings, Bullock and Hilliard are on assignment from the Pistons. Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy and current Pistons' Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson sat courtside.
Whisnant drained one 3-pointer in the first quarter, two in the second and four in the third quarter. The 6-foot-3 guard out of East Carolina nearly set the Iowa franchise record of eight threes. Michael Haynes (2011) and Moses Ehambe (2014) each had eight.
Iowa begins a three-game home stand on Dec. 23 when it hosts the Reno Bighorns at 7 p.m. EST. Grand Rapids continues its three-game home stand on Dec. 23 against the Canton Charge at 7 p.m.
