Pirates Return the Favor

PORTLAND, ME -- The Albany Devils couldn't complete the weekend sweep of the Portland Pirates, falling 2-0 Saturday at Cross Insurance Arena. A day after a 4-0 victory, the Devils were held off the score sheet for the first time since Apr. 5 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

The Devils move to 7-4-1-3, while the Pirates improve to 8-7-0-0.

Bolduc, who leads the Pirates with six goals and 14 points, found the back of the net at 7:19 of the second period. The tally ended a two-game goal drought of 169 minutes and came with helpers from Jordan Martinook and Greg Carey.

Eric Selleck sealed the win with an empty net goal with 38.6 seconds remaining in regulation.

After a 31-save, performance on Friday, Scott Clemmensen had his shutout streak halted at 103:32. The Devils netminder finished with 22 saves on 23 attempts.

The Pirates employed two goaltenders. Louis Domingue earned the win with 14 saves in 33:46 of play. He left during the second half of the middle frame after taking a blow from Paul Thompson. The Devils winger made a play towards the net and took out Domingue. Thompson was given an interference major and a game misconduct, putting the Devils down a forward for the remainder of the contest. Portland's Mike McKenna secured the shutout with 13 saves.

Albany owned a 27-24 shot advantage and went 0-3 on the power play and 6-6 on the penalty kill.

Game Notes

Scott Clemmensen made back-to-back starts for the first time this season at any level ... Tim Sestito (3gms, 3g-2a), Paul Thompson (2gms, 2a) and Scott Timmins (3gms, 1g-2a) each had their scorings streaks halted ... The Devils penalty kill is 20-20 during the last three games and 24-25 in the last four outings ... the Devils lost their first game in regulation when allowing two or fewer goals (3-1-1-0) ... Albany moves to 3-2-0-2 when tied after the first period, 0-3-0-1 when trailing after the second and 3-4-1-3 when outshooting their opponent.

Next Up

The Devils return to Times Union Center for a 7 pm contest against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Friday. As part of SEFCU College Night, students can purchase $10 tickets and a Happy Hour with $2 domestic drafts will be between 6-7pm.
