Bristol State Liners News Release

The Bristol Pirates closed out their six-game road trip with a 7-4 win over the Elizabethton Twins on Sunday evening.

The win was the Pirates' 17th of the year, as they matched their 2017 win total in 26 fewer games. They are currently tied for third place with the Johnson City Cardinals in the Appalachian League West Division, and are two games behind the second-place Kingsport Mets.

The Pirates took the lead in the third inning on a two-run home run from Dean Lockery -- his second of the year. Bristol added a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to extend their lead, and they had runners on first and second with no outs in the ninth inning when the game was called early due to rain.

Christian Navarro finished 1-for-3 with a triple, a stolen base and two runs scored. It was Navarro's second triple of the year, as he now sits second on the team behind Jonah Davis who has three. Lockery finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Conner Uselton also recorded two hits, finishing 2-for-3 with a walk, one RBI and one run scored.

Making his second start of the season, Will Kobos allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three over 3 2/3 innings. Argenis Romano earned his second win of the year, allowing only one run on two hits and two walks while striking out three over the final 4 1/3 innings. Romano has now allowed only four runs over 29 2/3 innings for a 1.21 ERA. Bristol has not had a pitcher with at least 50 innings pitched record an ERA lower than 2.00 since Joel Garber posted a 1.20 ERA over 60 innings in 1995.

The Pirates (17-20) have Monday off before returning home on Tuesday for a three-game series with the Bluefield Blue Jays. Tuesday's game will be Food City Night at Boyce Cox Field, with the first 100 fans through the gates receiving a gift.
