
2 Home Runs Power Cardinals to Win in Finale

JOHNSON CITY, TN - After dropping games one and two to the Braves, the Cardinals looked to salvage the series and win the finale. Powered by two homeruns and seven RBIs, the Cardinals won game three, 8-1 over the Braves.
Colin Schmid started the game for the Cardinals, his fourth of the season. Schmid went five innings, giving up four hits, one earned run, and notching four strikeouts.
Danville started the scoring in the top of the second with one run. Johnson City answered in the bottom of the second with one run. Leandro Cedeno was hit by a pitch to start the inning. With one out, Carlos Soto doubled (5) and Cedeno scored to tie the game at one.
The Braves went on to score one in the third and one in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. The Cardinals answered with three in the bottom of the third. Moises Castillo and Jonatan Machado started with back-to-back singles. Then Nolan Gorman blasted a three-run homerun (8) to left center field to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead.
Johnson City scored four more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-1 lead. Nolan Gorman doubled (4) to lead off the inning. Gorman then was thrown out at third, Kevin Woodall reached on a fielder's choice. With one out, Dariel Gomez reached on a fielding error. Then Brandon Riley singled to load the bases. Donivan Williams blasted a grand slam to increase the lead from 3-1 to 7-1.
Both teams were shut out until the eighth, Johnson City scored one in the bottom of the eighth to make it 8-1. Moises Castillo led off with a single and reached second on a throwing error. Jonatan Machado grounded out next, but Castillo moved to third. Nolan Gorman singled to bring home Castillo and give the Cardinals a seven-run lead and the game would finish 8-1 in favor of the Cardinals.
The Cardinals used four pitchers after Colin Schmid. Evan Sisk was first out of the bullpen. Sisk threw one inning, surrendering one hit and a walk. Oneiver Diaz was the second pitcher used. Diaz also threw one inning. He struck out one and did not allow a baserunner. David Oca was the third pitcher used out of the bullpen. Oca threw one inning and also did not allow a baserunner. Parker Kelly was the final reliever used out of the bullpen. He threw one perfect inning and notched one strikeout.
The Cardinals are off tomorrow, but start a three-game home series with the Elizabethton Twins.
