Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (26-24) rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to snap a three-game skid with a 6-4 win over the Norfolk Tides (17-34) on Monday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park.
The Tides grabbed an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second as Sharlon Schoop delivered a run via an RBI single and Ozzie Martinez picked up an RBI when he grounded into a force out.
Schoop's two-run shot off of Pigs starter David Buchanan opened up a 4-0 lead for Norfolk in the top of the fourth.
Buchanan (3-3) allowed the four runs on six hits while walking two and fanning two in seven innings of work. RHP Michael Mariot (1.0 IP, BB) and RHP Edward Mujica (1.0 IP) combined to get the final six outs for the Pigs. Mujica notched his 12th save of the year.
In the home half of the frame, the IronPigs grabbed a 5-4 lead with a five-spot for the second straight day. Cody Asche and Nick Williams started the inning with back-to-back solo shots off of Tides starter Andy Oliver before Brock Stassi, Darnell Sweeney and Logan Moore (4-4, 2B, RBI) all came through with RBI singles in the frame.
Asche's home run was his second of the season and Williams' fifth. The round-tripper extended Williams' hitting streak to nine games.
Oliver (n/d) gave up four runs on three hits while walking two and fanning three in three plus innings of work. RHP Scott McGough (2.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, ER, BB, 2 K) was tagged with the loss for Norfolk and falls to 0-1 on the year.
Trailing 5-4, the Tides had the bases loaded with two outs in the fifth, but Buchanan got Christian Walker to ground to third and end the threat.
The Pigs extended the lead to 6-4 with a run in the home half of the inning when Williams drew a one-out walk and later scored on Cam Perkins' RBI triple.
The series continues on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Jake Thompson (3-4, 3.48) gets the ball for the IronPigs against Tides RHP David Hale (0-2, 3.32).
