Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (34-29) dropped the series finale to the Durham Bulls (29-36) by a score of 10-3 on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park.
J.P. Arencibia's grand slam in the top of the first off of Pigs starter James Russell opened up an early 4-0 lead for the Bulls.
In the bottom of the second, Cedric Hunter's solo shot off of Durham starter Austin Pruitt brought the IronPigs within 4-1. The home run was Hunter's fifth of the season.
A three-run fourth extended the Durham lead to 7-1 as Daniel Robertson plated a pair with a two-run single in the inning and Johnny Field came through with an RBI double.
Russell (1-2) allowed the seven runs on nine hits while walking three and fanning three in 3.1 IP.
The Pigs cut the lead to 7-3 with a pair of runs in the fifth as Darnell Sweeney knocked home a run with a sac fly and J.P. Crawford delivered an RBI single in the frame. Later in the inning, the Pigs had the bases loaded with two outs and the tying run at the plate, but Pruitt got Nick Williams to ground into a force out and end the threat.
Pruitt (5-4) gave up the three runs on six hits to go along with a walk and seven strikeouts in 7.1 IP.
Jake Goebbert's three-run shot off of RHP Edward Mujica (1.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 0 ER) extended the Durham lead to 10-3 in the top of the ninth.
RHP Severino Gonzalez (4.2 IP, 1 H, 6 K) had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
The IronPigs will have an off day on Monday before opening a three-game set with the Gwinnett Braves on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. as RHP David Buchanan (3-4, 4.76) gets the ball for Lehigh Valley against Gwinnett RHP Joel De La Cruz (1-1, 5.73).
