Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (22-42) dropped a heartbreaker by a score of 5-4 in 10 innings to the Norfolk Tides (35-27) on Saturday night at Harbor Park.

Henry Urrutia's walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th scored Dariel Alvarez who had doubled to start the inning. RHP J.C. Gutierrez (1.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, K) took the loss for Lehigh Valley and drops to 0-1 on the season.

RHP Jorge Rondon (1.0 IP, BB) earned the win for the Tides to improve his record to 2-0 on the season.

Norfolk loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom half of the first and pushed across a run to take a 1-0 lead as Sean Halton grounded into a force out which allowed Julio Borbon to score.

The Pigs answered that with a run of their own in the top of the second as Russ Canzler (3-5, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) led off with a single, moved to second on a single, to third on a sac fly and scored on Tyler Henson's RBI bunt single to tie things at one apiece.

Derrik Gibson's RBI single in the home half of the same frame gave the Tides a 2-1 lead for the time being.

The back-and-forth affair continued in the third as Canzler's two-run shot to left gave the IronPigs a 3-2 advantage. It was the fourth home run of the season for Canzler and the first home run allowed this season by Tides starter Zach Davies.

Davies (n/d) gave up four runs on eight hits to go along with a walk and six strikeouts in 5.2 IP.

Norfolk's Christian Walker delivered an RBI groundout in the top of the third to create a deadlock at three.

Pigs starter Joely Rodriguez (n/d) allowed the three runs on four hits while issuing seven walks and fanning one over 4.2 IP.

The score would stay tied at three until the top of the sixth when Blake Forsythe brought home Chris McGuiness with a two-out RBI single to give Lehigh Valley a 4-3 lead. McGuiness had walked to start the frame and moved to second on a groundout.

Chris Parmelee tied it at four for the Tides in the seventh with a solo shot off of RHP Chris Leroux (3.1 IP, H, R, ER, BB, 4 K). It was Parmelee's sixth home run on the year.

Brian Bogusevic (2-4, 3B, R) was another one of the highlights offensively for the IronPigs.

The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. as Pigs RHP Phillippe Aumont (2-4, 2.58) will battle Tides RHP Tyler Wilson (3-4, 3.17).
