Norfolk Tides News Release
Henry Urrutia drove home Dariel Alvarez with a single in the bottom of the tenth inning, lifting Norfolk to a 5-4 walk-off win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs Saturday night at Harbor Park.
With the score knotted at 4-4, Alvarez opened the 10th frame with a double to the base of the left field wall. Urrutia followed by lining a 1-2 pitch off of Juan Carlos Gutierrez (0-1) into right-center field, plating Alvarez and giving the Tides their fourth walk-off victory of the season.
Alvarez had two hits in the contest - the fifth consecutive multi-hit game for the 26-year-old outfielder. Over his last five games, Alvarez has now batted .500 (12-24) with three doubles and four runs batted in.
Norfolk trailed the contest 4-3 in the seventh inning before Chris Parmelee belted a solo home run - his sixth of the season - to tie the game. The homer extended Parmelee's hitting streak to nine games, matching Steve Clevenger's nine-game streak for the longest by a Tides player this season.
Jorge Rondon (2-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Rondon, Pedro Beato and Oliver Drake combined to allow one hit over 4.1 shutout innings of relief.
Norfolk starter Zach Davies did not factor in the decision, as he allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk in 5.2 innings of work. Davies, who struck out six, allowed more than three runs in a game for just the second time this season as he saw his ERA rise to 3.13 - third-best among Orioles minor leaguers.
With the win, Norfolk (35-27) moved eight games over the .500 mark to match its highwater mark of the season. The Tides have gone 6-5 in June, alternating wins and losses over that 11-game stretch.
The two clubs wrap up their four-game series Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park, with first pitch set for 1:05. UVA product Tyler Wilson (3-4, 3.17) is slated to start for Norfolk against right-hander Phillipe Aumont (2-4, 2.58).
