Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (32-31) snapped a three-game skid with an 8-6 win over the Durham Bulls (37-27) on Saturday.
Durham came out of the gates swinging, plating two runs in the first on three hits, a walk and a hit batter, before left fielder, Mikie Mahtook, doubled home a run in the top of the second to make it 3-0, Bulls.
However, Louisville responded with five runs in the home half of the frame. Catcher, Ramon Cabrera, opened the scoring with an RBI single, then left fielder Jose Constanza tripled in two runs, knotting the game at 3-3.
With the Bats on Major League rehab, center fielder Jason Bourgeois, gave Louisville the lead with an RBI groundout and second baseman Irving Falu capped the five-run frame with a solo homer, his second of the season, to give the Bats a 5-3 lead.
Louisville added three more runs as first baseman, Steve Selsky, doubled home a run in the fifth, Cabrera hit a solo home run, his first of the season, in the sixth, and third baseman Josh Satin drove in a run on a fielder's choice in the seventh.
Durham added a run in the top of the seventh, and two in the top of the ninth, but righty Jumbo Diaz (S, 1) stranded runners on second and third to preserve the 8-6 Bats win.
Right-hander Keyvius Sampson (W, 1-0, 4.50), making his Bats' debut, settled down after allowing three runs in the first two frames and shutout Durham over the next four stanzas. Sampson allowed three earned runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
Righy, Matt Buschmann (L, 6-5, 3.89), allowed eight earned runs on 11 hits, two home runs, and two walks with three strikeouts.
Falu went 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs scored and one driven in, and Cabrera went 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs scored and two driven in to lead Louisville offensively.
Louisville and Durham will meet in the finale of their four-game series tomorrow at 6:05, with righty Josh Smith (1-2, 3.51) slated to take the mound for the Bats, and lefty Scott Diamond (6-2, 3.02) scheduled to toe the rubber for the Bulls.
