July 31, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Pigs jumped out to an 8-0 lead at Coca-Cola Field and hung on to win game two of the series 11-8. Lehigh Valley is now a season high 25-games above .500 and leads the IL North by nine games over SWB.
The Pigs wrapped up a record setting month of July with four home runs. They finish the month with 42 home runs that breaks the franchise record for home runs in a month. The record was set last May during the Pigs historic 24-5 month.
Jesmuel Valentin returned to the IronPigs lineup and belted the first home run of the ball game in the top of the first to go up 2-0. Two batters later Joey Meneses launched his IL leading 19th home run to go up 4-0. Mitch Walding joined Meneses at the top of the IL homerun leader board with a three-run home run in the top of the second to build an 8-0 Pigs lead. Logan Moore capped off the month with a solo home run in the top of the sixth.
Ranger Suarez was tagged for five runs in the start and did not earn a decision. Suarez was lifted after 4 1/3 innings where he allowed six hits including a three-run home run by Danny Janson to make it 8-3. Buffalo scored five unanswered runs to make it an 8-5 game in the bottom of the fifth.
Dean Anna extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a lead off single. Anna finished with three hits and scored three runs. He now ranks third all time in IronPigs history for hitting streaks. He trails just Dom Brown and Scott Kingery, who hold the record with 23.
All nine IronPigs in the starting line up finished with at least one hit. Anna and Walding each finished with three while four other Pigs enjoyed multi hit games. The top of the order, Anna, Valentin, Walding and Menes combined for eight RBIs.
Mark Leiter Jr (2-0) earned the win providing 2 2/3 innings of relief for the Pigs. Tyler Gilbert (2) tossed two scoreless innings to earn his second save of his AAA career.
The Bisons and IronPigs will play a twin bill beginning tomorrow night at 5:35. The Pigs will send Cole Irvin to the bump in game one against the Bisons.
The IronPigs return home August 3rd for a three game series against the Syracuse Chiefs. Stick around after the game on Friday for Aerosmith Fireworks presented by Coors Light.
