Indianapolis Indians News Release

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Clippers outlasted the Indianapolis Indians in 12 innings on Tuesday night, 10-9. The Tribe held three leads at different points in the contest, but the Clippers rallied to win a wild game.

Kevin Kramer opened the scoring in the second inning for Indianapolis (59-49) with a mammoth home run. It sailed over the wall in right field for Kramer's team-leading 12th blast of the season. The rally continued two outs later when Erich Weiss walked and would later score on a single by Kevin Newman.

The lead was chipped away by Columbus (56-51). Mike Papi blasted a solo homer in the bottom of the second, and he would score to tie the game in the fourth on Connor Marabell's single.

Indy regained the lead in the fifth. Newman led off with a double and then trotted home when Jason Martin smashed a home run off the video board in right-center field to untie the game. The Indians added another run later in the inning when Kramer singled home Jacob Stallings who had walked earlier in the frame.

Adam Rosales began the push for extras with a double that plated Yu Chang in the eighth. Yandy Diaz's double in the ninth cut the lead to one, and an infield single by Papi leveled the score and clinched bonus baseball for Columbus.

The Indians scored four runs in the top of the tenth to take a commanding lead in extras that would not hold. Wyatt Mathisen highlighted the frame with a double into the right-center field gap. Kramer and Jerrick Suiter added run-scoring hits in the inning to take a short-lived 9-5 lead.

With the Indians in great shape for a win, Columbus answered the bell with another rally in the bottom of the tenth. With two runs in, Eric Haase clubbed a ball into left-center field. It landed just out of the reach of Martin and Reyes who had converged, and two runs scored to retie the game.

After a scoreless 11th inning for both teams, the Tribe nearly forced another extra frame. With runners at the corners and one out in the bottom of the 12th, Brandon Barnes bounced a ball to Newman at shortstop. He fired to second base for one out, but Barnes beat the relay to first base to avoid the double play and clinch the walk-off win.

The Indians will try for the series victory in Columbus tomorrow night, first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Indy returns home on Tuesday, August 7.
