
Pierce Scores a Pair in Odessa's 5-3 Win

(Odessa, TX) - Jeff Pierce's pair of third period goals proved to be the difference as the Odessa Jackalopes topped the Corpus Christi IceRays by a 5-3 final on Friday night at the Ector County Coliseum in front of a crowd of 3.216.
Pierce's two goals came just 41 seconds in the third period to make it a 4-1 lead for Odessa then again at 12:09 on a 2-on-1 rush from the right circle. Corpus Christi's Chris Richards also scored a pair between Pierce's tallies to keep the IceRays in it.
The Jackalopes opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first period. Collin Circelli drove net and slipped a loose puck in the crease past Kevin Beech at 9:28 for his team-leading, 30th goal of the season. The Jacks held a 1-0 advantage after twenty minutes of play.
The Jackalopes added to their lead in period two as Troy Ofukany deflected a Mike Ramsay shot from the blue line at 5:05 to make it a 2-0 lead. Adam Powell then put the IceRays on the scoreboard with a power play goal at 15:43. Powell drove the net from the right-wing corner and scored on his own rebound. The Jackalopes then regained the two-goal lead on the power play again as Alex Dunn's slap shot from the left point deflected off the body of Corpus Christi defenseman, Stephen Later, and in the net to make it 3-1, Odessa, entering the break.
Joel Martin stopped 30 shots to earn his 21st win of the season. The Jackalopes improve to 41-11-4 on the season, with eight games remaining.
Circelli's first period tally extended Odessa's streak to 17 straight games with a power play goal, tying their season-high.
Odessa continues their homestand on Saturday night when they host the Laredo Bucks at 7:05 PM. The action can be heard on Classic Rock 102.1 FM.
