Rapid City Rush News Release

(Tulsa, OK) - The Rush began their three-game road trip with a 3-0 victory over the Tulsa Oilers on Friday night. Rookie goaltender Danny Battochio picked up his second shutout of the season while Scott Wray netted a pair of goals, overtaking the team lead in that category. The Rush have now extended the lead in the Northern Conference to eight standings points. With the 40th win of the year, Head Coach Joe Ferras sets a new personal high for coaching wins in a season.

Veteran Scott Wray got the scoring underway at the 9:19 mark with his 27th goal of the season coming off of a faceoff in the offensive end. Les Reaney was able to push the puck forward to Derek Campbell who fired a low shat that rebounded to Wray at the top of the crease for the goal. The Rush then picked up their first powerplay chance of the game, and did not let the opportunity go to waste. With the puck near the right point, Campbell found Derek LeBlanc with room in front of him, and the second year pro walked in and buried a wrist shot to the top left corner for the 2-0 lead.

With a last-minute powerplay, the Oilers pulled netminder Marty Magers for the 6-on-4 advantage. The gamble did not pay off as Scott Wray slid a puck down the ice into the open net to complete the 3-0 win.

Battochio made 34 stops for his second shutout of the season while Magers stopped 29 in the loss. Rapid City ended the game 1-for-4 on the powerplay while stifling all four Tulsa chances.

The Rush now take on the Texas Brahmas tomorrow before traveling to Odessa to face the Jackalopes on Tuesday night.
