
Bucks Fall Back To Tie For Third in Milestone Game

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Texas Brahmas 5-2 Friday night at the NYTEX Sports Center. The Bucks three-game winning streak was snapped as they fall back into a tie for third place in the Southern Conference with the Brahmas. Laredo falls to 28-19-9 (65 points).
The Bucks played their 500th regular season game in franchise history Friday night. Laredo's all-time record stands at 315-141-44 with Terry Ruskowski serving the only head coach is Bucks history. Ruskowski becomes just the sixth person to have coached in 500 or more CHL games.
Matt Pierce had a hat trick for the Brahmas while Joe Palmer stopped 28 of 30 shots in net for Texas (30-22-5, 65 points).
The Bucks fell behind the Brahmas early as they trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes of play.
Texas jumped out in front 4:50 into the game when Jordan Cameron stuffed in a rebound right in front of the Bucks net to make it 1-0. The goal was Cameron's 20th of the season.
The Brahmas would go up 2-0 with 5:19 left in the first period when Matt Pierce scored on a penalty shot after a Bucks penalty on a breakaway. Pierce picked up his fifth of the season including his second against the Bucks.
The Bucks were outshot in the first period 13-12.
Laredo would get on the board just 1:38 into the second period when Todd Griffith tipped in Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel's shot on the power-play to make it 2-1 Brahmas. The tally was Griffith's eighth of the season.
Texas would increase their lead to 3-1 at the 11:57 mark of the second when the Bucks failed to clear the puck on the power-play and Pierce jammed in a goal in front of the net. The strike was Pierce's second of the game and sixth of the season.
The Bucks would cut the Brahmas lead to 3-2 with 7:04 left in the period when Evan Schwabe scored on a pass from Griffith on a two-on-one advantage. Schwabe has 13 tallies on the season.
The two teams combined for 48 penalty minutes in the second period as the Bucks were forced to kill off a four-on-three and a five-on-three power-play.
Laredo was outshot in the second period 16-9.
Pierce scored his hat trick goal to put the Brahmas up 4-2 at the 12:02 mark of the third period. Pierce has seven goals on the season with four of them coming against the Bucks.
James Hiebert made it 5-2 Texas with 5:07 left in the third period when he scored a wrap around goal.
The Bucks were outshot 37-30 in the game.
The Bucks will close out their two-game road trip Saturday night in Odessa. Game time is 7:05pm
