North Bay Battalion News Release

NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Ontario Hockey League's North Bay Battalion has traded defenceman Payton Vescio to the Hamilton Bulldogs for a conditional 15th-round pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection, it was announced Thursday.

The deal came just before the league's noon trade deadline.

The Battalion chose Vescio, who turns 18 on March 20, in the fourth round of the 2017 OHL Priority Selection from the North Bay Trappers major midgets.

Vescio, a North Bay native, had four assists in 26 games with the Battalion this season after playing one game with the club in 2017-18 without registering a point. He played 42 games last season with the affiliated Powassan Voodoos of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, scoring three goals and earning 19 assists for 22 points.

The Troops acquired defenceman Zack Malik, an 18-year-old Czech import, on Tuesday in a trade with the Sudbury Wolves. Malik was expected to be in the lineup against the Mississauga Steelheads at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The departure of Vescio, who sat out the last three games with an injury, puts the Battalion roster at 24, numbering 14 forwards, eight defencemen and two goaltenders.

Left winger Kyle Jackson was called up from the junior A Ottawa Jr. Senators to fill in for Cameron Peters, who has experienced concussion-like symptoms since a head check by Zach Poirier in a 5-2 road win Sunday over the Guelph Storm.
