Spits Acquire Rights to Bernard, Trade Patton to Guelph

(Windsor, ON) - General Manager Warren Rychel has acquired the rights to goalie Jackson Bernard from the Erie Otters. In exchange, Erie receives the rights to forward Reid Russett.

Bernard, 17, was Erie's 15th round pick (#300 overall) in the 2017 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. A native of Huntley, Illinois, Bernard has appeared in seven games this season with the LaSalle Vipers (the Spitfires' Junior B affiliate) of the GOJHL, posting a 3.63 goals against average and an .822 save percentage.

Russett, 17, was Windsor's second round pick (#30 overall) in the 2018 Ontario Hockey League Under-18 Priority Selection back in April. The Ottawa native has appeared in 33 games with the Smith Falls Bears of the CCHL this season, scoring four times and adding 12 assists along with 22 penalty minutes.

PATTON TRADED TO GUELPH

Goaltender Lucas Patton has been traded to the Guelph Storm for a 12th round pick in the 2020 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.

Patton, 19, appeared in six games for the Spitfires during the 2017-18 season, posting a 3.24 goals against average and an .894 save percentage.

This season's Ontario Hockey League trade deadline has passed as of the noon hour.
