
Phillies Take Final Game of the Series 7-4

The SeaWolves fell behind early and never rebounded as they dropped the final game of a four-game series to the Reading Phillies on Monday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park.
The Phillies struck first in the top of the first inning against Erie starter Luke Putkonen. Freddy Galvis led off, walked and moved to third on a Michael Spidale double. Matt Rizzotti walked loading the bases for Cody Overbeck. Overbeck was hit by a pitch, scoring Galvis for a 1-0 lead. Stephen Susdorf singled home Spidale for a 2-0 lead. Derrick Mitchell hit into a fielder's choice and the 'Wolves retired Rizzotti at the plate, however, on an errant throw from Bryan Holaday, two more runs scored and Reading went ahead 4-0. Paco Figueroa completed the scoring as he doubled home Mitchell for a 5-0 lead.
The 'Wolves cut into the Reading lead in the fifth against Reading starter Ryan Edell. Francisco Martinez led off and singled and that was followed by an Adam Calderone single putting runners on the corners for Michael Rockett. Rocket sent a fly ball to center and on a sacrifice fly, Martinez scored making it 5-1. Calderone would come home to score on a Justin Henry double making it 5-2.
Reading went back ahead by five in the fifth. With two outs, Overbeck singled and Susdorf walked putting a pair on for Mitchell. Mitchell doubled home the baserunners to put the Phillies up 7-2.
Erie threatened a comeback in the ninth against reliever Jake Diekman. With one out, Henry reached on a hit by pitch and Brandon Douglas singled putting two on for Audy Ciriaco. Ciriaco doubled home the baserunners making it a 7-4 game. The 'Wolves would get no closer.
Putkonen (0-7) took the loss allowing seven runs on eight hits with three walks and a strikeout. It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Erie righty.
The SeaWolves head to Binghamton to take on the Mets for four games in three days with a doubleheader on Tuesday night beginning at 5:35. Lefty Jay Voss (0-1, 4.05 ERA) takes the mound for Erie in game one against LHP Robert Carson (1-6, 4.21 ERA). Game two features RHP Rob Waite (1-1, 4.74 ERA) against RHP Collin McHugh (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
