Fisher Cats Win with Five Runs in Ninth

(Manchester, NH)-Down 6-2 heading to the bottom of the ninth inning, the Fisher Cats scored five times including a walk-off single by Mark Sobolewski for a 7-6 win on Monday afternoon at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

The win was the seventh straight for New Hampshire (34-16), including a four-game sweep of the Rock Cats over Memorial Day weekend.

The Fisher Cats started the bottom of the ninth inning with consecutive walks to Callix Crabbe and Darin Mastroianni. Adeiny Hechavarria singled and Anthony Gose reached on an error as Crabbe and Mastroianni scored to make it 6-4. Mike McDade drilled an RBI single to make it 6-5 and John Tolisano came on to run for McDade. After a throwing error on a pickoff attempt moved the runners into scoring position, New Britain intentionally walked Moises Sierra. Pinch-hitter Travis d'Arnaud struck out before Yan Gomes tied the game at 6-6 by drawing a walk. Sobolewski followed with a single, scoring Tolisano, for the 7-6 win.

New Britain (27-21) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Steve Singleton led off the game with a single and scored on a double by Evan Bigley (3-for-5, 2B, RBI).

The Rock Cats opened up a 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Singleton singled and Joe Benson homered to make it 3-0. Bigley singled and Deibinson Romero walked. Chris Herrmann and Daniel Rohlfing followed with consecutive RBI singles off Fisher Cats starter Rey Gonzalez.

The Fisher Cats scored twice in the bottom of the third inning. Mastroianni walked and Gose homered to make it 5-2. Gose's shot over the U. S. Cellular foul pole in right field was his fourth of the season.

New Britain added a run in the top of the sixth inning. Daniel Rohlfing singled and moved to third on a single by Chris Cates. Singleton's sacrifice fly scored Rohlfing to make it 6-2.

Gonzalez allowed six runs on ten hits in 5.2 IP. He walked two and struck out four. Yohan Pino, Mike Hinckley, and Ron Uviedo combined to work 3.1 innings of scoreless relief with Uviedo (2-1) earning the win.

New Britain starter Bobby Lanigan pitched well enough to earn a win, allowing two earned runs in 6.2 innings. He allowed six hits and walked three. Tyler Robertson (4-3) took the loss with the Fisher Cats scoring the winning run off Mike Tarsi.

New Hampshire opens a six-game roadtrip in Harrisburg tomorrow night against the Western Division-leading Senators (Nationals Double-A). RHP Henderson Alvarez (2-0, 1.50) starts for the Fisher Cats against Harrisburg RHP Brad Peacock (7-1, 2.13). Game time is 7:00pm and radio coverage on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman begins at 6:45pm.

The Fisher Cats will return home on Tuesday, June 7 to open a homestand with the Bowie Baysox at 7:05pm.
