Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Phillies pitcher Joe Blanton will rehab with the BlueClaws on Tuesday at the team's 6:35 game at FirstEnergy Park.
He becomes the 13th Phillie to rehab with the BlueClaws since the team's 2001 inception. Last year, Lakewood hosted pitchers JC Romero and Brett Myers in the regular season and pitcher Clay Condrey and infielder Greg Dobbs during the South Atlantic League Championship Series.
The BlueClaws are 13-8 all-time when Phillies players rehab in Lakewood.
Blanton strained his left oblique muscle during a March 31st bullpen session in Clearwater. He went 4- 0 for the World Champion Phillies in 2008 and 12-8 in 2009.
He was acquired from the Athletics in a deadline deal in 2008 for LHP Josh Outman, 2B Adrian Cardenas, and OF Matt Spencer. Both Outman (2006) and Cardenas (2007) played for the BlueClaws.
Twelve players currently on the Phillies 40-man roster played in Lakewood on their way through the minor league system (including Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels and Carlos Ruiz) and three others have rehabbed with the BlueClaws.
At the game, the first 2,000 fans will receive a BlueClaws magnetic schedule courtesy of JerseyShore.MomsLikeMe.com. Plus, Seniors Eat Free thanks to TD Bank and Baseball Bingo will be played throughout the night.
Tickets are on sale now by calling 732-901-7000 or online at BlueClaws.com.
