CHESTER, Pa. - Philadelphia Union announced today that they have acquired a second round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft from the Chicago Fire in exchange for the rights to midfielder Fabian Herbers. The pick is Chicago's natural choice, set for 29th overall. Herbers' 2019 contract option was previously declined by the Union. The trade occurred during today's MLS Half-Day Trade Window.
"On behalf of the Philadelphia Union, we'd like to thank Fabian for his service to the club and wish him well in Chicago," said Ernst Tanner, Union Sporting Director. "We believe this trade is best for both Fabian as well as the Union at this time."
The 2019 MLS SuperDraft begins with the first two rounds taking place in Chicago on Friday, January 11. After this trade, the Union hold picks 13, 29, 37, 61, and 85.
