Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS - The Sioux Falls Pheasants could not solve the puzzle of the Winnipeg Goldeyes' pitching staff on Wednesday night, losing a 4-0 shutout at Sioux Falls Stadium.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes used three pitchers to keep Pheasants hitter at bay. Starter Dustin Glant (1-1) led the way with six innings, allowing only one hit and striking out eight. He walked two. Kevin Light tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth, and William Jackel finished the game in the ninth.

Winnipeg scored twice in the third inning on an RBI-groundout from Brian Myrow. Louis Ott added a bases-loaded sacrifice fly later in the inning. A throwing error by Trevor Lawhorn allowed Kody Kaiser to score from second base in the fifth inning, and Winnipeg added their final run with Myrow's solo home run in the ninth.

The Pheasants best opportunity to score came in the seventh inning. Reggie Abercrombie led off with a double to the left field corner. Mark Shorey then struck out and was ejected for arguing balls and strikes. Trevor Lawhorn followed with a single to left, but Abercrombie could not advance on the ground ball hit in front of him. The threat ended when Hunter Jobes flew out to right and Will Richards struck out. Lawhorn was the only Pheasant with multiple hits, going 2-for-4.

Pheasants starter Chris Salberg (0-2) took the loss. He threw five innings, yielding three runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out three.

The Pheasants could only muster four hits and were shut out for the second time in seven games. The Pheasants dropped their sixth game in a row to start the young season at 1-6.

The finale of the four-game series is at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, May 19. Probable starters are Winnipeg RHP Ace Walker (0-0, 3.00) vs. Sioux Falls RHP Brad Stone (0-1, 10.80). It's Thirsty Thursday and Sioux Falls Teacher Appreciation night. All Sioux Falls District teachers can get in free.
