Phantoms Sweep Omaha, Run Win Streak to Five
April 2, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Phantoms defeated the Omaha Lancers 4-0 Saturday night in Youngstown to complete a weekend sweep over the Lancers. It was the Phantoms fifth straight win, their longest streak of the season.
Both teams had a handful of quality scoring chances early on, with each goaltender making impressive saves to keep the contest scoreless. Phantoms netminder Colin DeAugustine turned aside a pair of Lancers breakaways, including one by Omaha's leading scorer, Josh French.
The Phantoms would finally breakthrough in the final minutes of the opening frame, when Vas Kolias opened the scoring for the second straight night, putting a rebound past Kris Oldham.
Youngstown would double its advantage seconds into the second period, when Pearson beat a sprawling Oldham for his 12th goal of the year. The Phantoms would extend their advantage on the power play just over six minutes later, when Patrick Kramer roofed a wrist shot for his 5th goal this season. Phantoms defenseman Kris Myllari picked up an assist on Kramer's goal, his third of the contest.
A fast paced third period saw over 19 scoreless minutes go by before each team tallied within 11 seconds of each other. Cam Morrison would pot his 30th of the campaign with an empty net goal in the final minute. The Lancers would ruin DeAugustine's bid at a shutout with less than 30 seconds left in regulation, however, when Matthew Meier's wrist shot found the back of the net. DeAugustine turned aside 30 of 31 Lancer's shot attempts.
Youngstown will wrap up the 2015-16 USHL season next weekend with a home and home series against the USA 17s. The Phantoms season will conclude Saturday night in Youngstown with Fan Appreciation Night presented by Ohio Utilities Protection Services. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
