Youngstown, OH - The Omaha Lancers were unable to get a split with the Youngstown Phantoms on Saturday night in a 4-1 loss at the Covelli Centre in front of 3,212 fans.
After Phantoms goaltender Colin DeAugustine kept the Lancers off the scoreboard in the opening period, including a big stop as Omaha's Nick Rivera came in on a breakaway right out of the penalty box. After that, Youngstown came back down the ice late in the first period to take a 1-0 lead on a good bounce. On a two-on-one rush, Eric Esposito fired a shot on net from the right wing circle that was stopped by Lancers netminder Kris Oldham. The rebound went off of Omaha's Patrick Harper and into the net for the one-goal advantage. Esposito was credited with his second goal of the year with assists from Kris Myllari and Garrett Hall at the 14:12 mark.
The Phantoms tacked on two more goals in the second period to take a three-goal lead after 40-minutes of play. After the shot by Kris Myllari was stopped, the rebound went right to Chase Pearson and the forward one-timed the puck over the right leg pad of Oldham for the goal. The goal was Pearson's 12th of the year with assists from Myllari and Matt Alvaro just 1:08 into the middle frame.
Later in the second period, on the power play, Youngstown took a 3-0 advantage. Players converged on the net to the left of Kris Oldham trying to locate the loose puck in traffic. Patrick Kramer arrive on the scene, toe-dragged the puck out of the skates, and lifted a quick shot over the left shoulder of Oldham for the three-goal lead. With the goal, Kramer tallied just his fifth of the year. Kris Myllari recorded his third assist of the night while Vas Kolias was credited with the secondary assist at 7:31.
Late in the game, both sides added a goal. With Omaha's net empty, Cam Morrison fired in his 30th goal of the season from center ice to give the Phantoms a 4-0 lead with 34-seconds left in the game. However, Lancers forward Matt Meier broke up the shutout bid with 23-seconds left in the game. The goal was Meier's eighth of the season and was unassisted.
