The Week in Review

Game 7: Shorthanded Phantoms Fall to the Fargo Force 5-2

The Phantoms gave up a goal 1:29 into the first period but forward Stenglein was able to tie the game ten minutes later on his first career goal. The Phantoms were set to go into the intermission down by one but a Force goal with twenty seconds left put the Phantoms down by two heading into the break. The Phantoms Quinn Smith put the puck in the back of the net to bring the Phantoms within one but that was the closest Youngstown would get before the final buzzer. A late second period goal and a third period power play goal sealed the 5-2 win for the Force. Phantoms goaltender Matthew O'Connor stopped 30 of 35 shots in his seventh straight start of the season.

Game 8: Phantoms Shorthanded Again Lose to Dubuque 4-1

Phantoms netminder Matt Green made his first start of the season but it did not get off to the start he anticipated. The Phantoms allowed two early goals less than a minute apart and they allowed four unanswered goals before the Phantoms scored in the third. The Fighting Saints were able to chase Green after the fourth goal was scored with only 3:49 remaining in the second period. A goal by Sekac cut the lead to three but the Phantoms were unable to get any closer as the Fighting Saints dealt the Phantoms their third straight loss. O'Connor replaced Green in the second period and in his eighth straight appearance he stopped all 14 shots he faced in 23 minutes of work.

Quote of the Week

Head Coach Curtis Carr comments on the difficulty of playing with a short bench.

"It's tough to win games with a short bench," said Carr. "We have traveled over 7,000 miles to start the season and I feel once we get healthy we will be just fine. We need to stay focused on the big picture and focused on the process that we feel will allow us to win games. I know once we get our guys back we will be right up there as one of the best teams in this league."
